My lovely studio was the residence of Mrs. Eugene (Katie) Engel, who entered the Freedman Home in November, 1953. Who's Who in the Andrew Freedman Home 1970 describes her as an entrepreneur, a writer and producer of plays, a choreographer and costume designer, Chairman Emeritus of the Entertainment Committee, author of the Founder's Day skit and active on the Records Committee.
I close the studio after another interesting day in the Bronx.
The opening party for "This Side of Paradise" was a huge success: over 2,500 people roamed the halls of the Freedman Home. I was barely able to keep up with the stream of visitors thru my room.
Martine, whose photographs are installed in Room 244, checks out my book as we wait for the opening crowds.
A lone cup, saucer and glass retrieved from the third floor.
